How to get your Instagram data

1. In Instagram, open Settings → Accounts Centre → Your information and permissions → Download your information.
2. Choose Create export → your account → Export to device.
3. Set Date range to All time, Format to JSON (not HTML) and Media quality to Lower.
4. Instagram emails a link, usually within 1–2 hours. Download the .zip and load it into PsycheAI.

Adding your Google Takeout (searches and YouTube) or your Facebook data makes the reading sharper, and is optional.

What happens to your data

Your Instagram zip, your photos and videos, the finished report and other people’s messages – apart from a short, anonymised line of what some of your messages were replying to – never leave your device. A short digest of your own words and activity is de-identified first (your name becomes a blank; emails, phone and ID numbers are removed; other people’s handles and the names of people you message become numbers like [P1] and [N1]) and is sent once to Google Vertex AI (Gemini, on Google Cloud’s enterprise tier, which does not train on it) to write the reading. PsycheAI keeps no copy, and there is no account – only a one-way scrambled code of your Instagram username, so each account gets one free card.

What each part of your data says

• Your captions and comments are your own words: what you celebrate, how you write to people, what you announce and then follow through on.
• Your messages show how you keep in touch: who starts conversations, how warmly you reply, how you handle a tense moment.
• When you are active, hour by hour and week by week, shows your rhythm: steady or in bursts, mornings or late nights.
• What you like, save and search shows where your attention goes when nobody is watching, which can differ from what you post.
