How to get a personality read from your own exports
The short answer: export your data from Instagram, WhatsApp or Google, then load it into a tool that reads text for personality, or paste it into a general chatbot. The tools differ most in what they read, where your file goes, and what you get back. Every one of them, ours included, gives an inference, not a measurement.
Step 1: export your data
- Instagram: Accounts Centre → Your information and permissions → Export your information, as JSON. The file usually arrives within 1–2 hours. Step-by-step guide.
- WhatsApp: open a chat → Export chat → Without media. Instant. More.
- Google: Takeout with only My Activity, as JSON. Usually minutes. More.
Step 2: pick a tool
TypeMyVibe
Reads chats from several apps, and your history with AI assistants or public posts, and gives MBTI, Enneagram, Big Five and a moral alignment, quoting the lines behind each. Your chat is uploaded to its servers and, it says, deleted afterwards. Best for: several frameworks from one chat.
MosaicChats
Reads an Instagram DM export, or a single conversation: sentiment over time, each person’s share of the messages and a compatibility score. Best for: one relationship, as charts.
ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini
Upload a file and ask. Capable, but the raw export goes as it is, names and friends’ messages included, and a full Instagram export is usually more than a chatbot can take in at once. What ChatGPT can see.
PsycheAI (ours)
Reads a full Instagram export, or two or three WhatsApp chats, plus Google and Facebook if you like, in your own browser. Only a de-identified summary that you review is sent. You get a shareable Psyche Card, a full report with the evidence, Psyche Sync with friends and a coach that has read it. Your first card and report are free; there is no subscription and no account. Best for: a full picture of you, privately. See the sample report.
The limits, honestly
- It is an inference. No tool here, ours included, is a validated psychological test. Treat a result as a well-argued opinion, and look at the evidence it gives.
- It sees only what you exported. If you mostly talk in person or on another app, the reading is thinner, and a good tool says so.
- Chosen chats are a biased sample. The two or three people you pick are usually your closest, so the read of how social you are is weaker from chats alone.
- Old data is old you. Years of posts mix who you were with who you are; the most recent activity should count most.
- Other people are in your data. Your friends did not choose to be read. Prefer tools that read the file on your device and send as little of their words as possible.
- It is not therapy. These are tools for insight and reflection, not diagnosis or treatment.
What to check before you upload
- Does the file leave your device, or only a summary?
- Are names and contacts removed first, and can you see what is sent?
- Is it kept, and is it used to train AI?
- Is it a one-off price, or a subscription?
Questions
Which export gives the best reading?
Instagram, because it holds years of posts, comments and messages. Two or three WhatsApp chats with people you talk to a lot are the fastest start. Google adds your interests.
Is it safe to upload my export?
It depends on the tool. A raw export holds other people’s names and messages. PsycheAI reads it on your device and sends only a de-identified summary you have reviewed.
How accurate is a personality read from data?
Useful, not exact. Behaviour is harder to fake than a questionnaire, but it is still an inference, so a good reading says how confident it is.
Your first Psyche Card is free
No questionnaire, no account. About a minute once your Instagram data is ready, or straight away with two WhatsApp chats.
